Full Story: A Soft and Serene Maternity Shoot on the Beach
There’s something truly special about beach maternity sessions—especially during golden hour. The way the light wraps around an expectant mother, the calm of the ocean, and the symbolism of a new life on the horizon—it all comes together to create something magical. This shoot with Angelique Pelser, set against the sandy shores of Melkbos Beach, was the perfect expression of that magic.
With her beautiful bump, serene smile, and the ocean breeze gently tugging at her dress, Angelique was the picture of maternal beauty and quiet anticipation.
The Setting: Melkbosstrand at Golden Hour
Melkbosstrand, with its long stretches of soft sand and uninterrupted views of the Atlantic, is one of my favourite locations for maternity photography. We timed this shoot to begin about an hour before sunset—the golden hour—when the light is warm, flattering, and romantic.
The sea breeze was gentle, the skies were painted in soft pastel hues, and the shoreline gave us plenty of open space for natural movement and intimate moments.
Wardrobe and Styling
Angelique arrived in a flowing soft pink maternity gown, which moved beautifully with the wind and reflected the golden tones of the setting sun. Her look was completed with a delicate floral headband, giving her an ethereal, almost goddess-like presence.
Her husband opted for a crisp white button-up shirt and classic jeans, a timeless combination that balanced the softness of Angelique’s attire while giving the shoot a romantic yet grounded look.
Together, they looked effortlessly elegant—connected, joyful, and completely present in the moment.
The Mood: Quiet Anticipation & Joy
What stood out the most was the sense of calm and joy between Angelique and her husband. They’re counting down the weeks to meeting baby Miane, and that anticipation brought a depth of emotion to every frame.

This shoot also served as a visual celebration of baby Miane Pelser, due in February. Angelique wanted to document this chapter not just as a mother-to-be, but as a woman standing confidently in her transition into motherhood.
Capturing these moments allows parents to look back and remember what this season felt like—the excitement, the softness, the strength, and the wonder of what’s to come.
