Full Story: A Bond Between Girl and Horses on the Stellenbosch Farm
Nestled among the vineyards and rolling fields of Stellenbosch lies a farm where love, trust, and gentle strength come to life. This is where I had the privilege of photographing Carlien—a graceful, spirited young girl—and her two cherished horses, Mambo and Perfect.
This wasn’t just a photoshoot. It was a story of connection, play, and elegance told through movement, light, and emotion.
Meet Carlien, Mambo & Perfect
Carlien is a natural in front of the camera, her radiant smile and flowing blonde hair echoing the beauty of the countryside around her. But what truly made this shoot special was the bond she shares with Mambo (a stunning black horse) and Perfect (a gentle brown horse).
These horses are more than pets—they are companions, protectors, and a part of Carlien’s everyday life on the farm. Their calm presence and mutual trust allowed for relaxed, sincere moments that were a joy to capture.
Wardrobe & Styling: Black and Red Elegance
Carlien’s wardrobe elevated the shoot beautifully. She first wore a long black dress that flowed with each movement, offering a timeless and refined feel, especially against the farm’s earthy tones and the deep colour of Mambo’s coat.
Later, she changed into a bold red dress—bringing vibrancy and passion to the frame. This dress danced in the wind, especially during movement shots where Carlien led the horses or twirled barefoot in the fields.
The contrast of her light hair with the rich tones of the horses and dresses made each image striking and memorable.
