The Full Story: A Vineyard Family Shoot Filled with Joy
There’s a special kind of magic that happens during golden hour, especially when you’re surrounded by vines, historic architecture, and a family full of love and laughter. This shoot with the Gerger family at Fort Simon Wine Farm in Stellenbosch was one of those sessions where everything just clicked.
With soft sunlight casting a golden glow and the vineyard rows catching the light just right, the setting created a timeless and gentle atmosphere for a relaxed, playful shoot.
Meet the Gergers
This young family brought energy, connection, and lots of sweet, unscripted moments to their shoot. Karin, the mother, was radiant in a white blouse and floral leggings featuring purple tones that echoed beautifully in the surroundings. Later in the session, she changed into a soft purple blouse that added a gentle richness to the colour palette.
Her partner wore a classic white button-up shirt, perfectly neutral and timeless against the green vineyard backdrop. Their daughter looked completely adorable in matching floral leggings and a purple jersey, echoing her mom’s colour choices and adding a touch of whimsy to the visuals.
The Location: Fort Simon Wine Farm, Stellenbosch
Fort Simon Wine Farm offers a blend of rolling vineyards, old-world architecture, and wide, open lawns. It’s a dream setting for family photography, especially in the late afternoon when the light filters softly through the vines and trees.
We spent the session moving between sun-drenched vineyard rows and shaded lawn areas where their daughter could play and explore freely—offering perfect moments to capture curiosity, smiles, and connection.
The Mood: Playful & Heartfelt
What made this shoot so memorable wasn’t just the setting or the colours—it was the way the Gergers interacted with one another. There was laughter, running barefoot on the grass, gentle cuddles in the late afternoon sun, and spontaneous moments of joy.
We didn’t over-pose; instead, I encouraged them to move, play, and simply enjoy being together. Their toddler’s joyful spirit brought such life to the images—whether she was walking between her parents or cuddled up in a hug.
Styling Notes: Coordinated, Soft & Timeless
This shoot is a perfect example of how well-thought-out wardrobe choices can elevate a session. The use of lavender, white, and soft floral prints brought harmony and personality to the images, while still allowing for movement and comfort.
The clothing reflected the season, the vineyard tones, and the family’s joyful energy without being too formal—ideal for natural family portraits.
Why Book a Golden Hour Family Shoot?
Golden hour—the last hour before sunset—is one of the most flattering times of day to shoot. The light is soft, warm, and dreamy, enhancing skin tones and giving every photo a glow. Combine that with a relaxed outdoor location like Fort Simon, and you have the perfect recipe for a heartfelt session.
These are more than just pictures—they become a reflection of this chapter in your family’s life, filled with motion, laughter, and love.
